Making Dreams Come True

Featuring:

Cameron Murphy

Former Broista, Las Vegas, Nevada

Time With Dutch Bros:

Like Troy Bolton in “High School Musical”, Cameron “Cam” Murphy was drawn to theater, the arts and dance, but found it difficult to find time in his busy sports schedule.

Yet, dance was a calling he just couldn’t shake.

While it was difficult, with the determination to make his dreams a reality, Cam somehow balanced school, sports, and dance. After high school, he began performing on the street showing onlookers his moves, as well as professionally, with the goal of moving to NYC. Not an easy dream, but the calling stuck and the motivation guided him.

Cam joined the Dutch Mafia while dancing in the Michael Jackson Cirque du Soleil show in Las Vegas. His goal was to work for a couple of months, meet new people, make money, and of course, have some fun.

Dru O’Connor, a Dutch Bros lifer, met Cam when he hired him to work at his first shop in Vegas. He immediately felt Cam was a natural fit for his shop.

“Everyone just gravitated toward Cam, it was obvious he was really kindhearted and genuine,” said Dru.

The thing about leaning into your dreams is you learn to be unapologetically you and when harnessed, that energy is intoxicating. The passion you radiate draws people in.

While on your journey to your dreams, it's important to not lose sight of your surroundings. Take in the journey itself. During his time at Dutch, Cam not only created lifelong friendships with his coworkers, but was also truly impacted by the customers he met.

“There was this one couple who came through the shop every morning as a part of their daily routine and they were the customers you knew that taking their order was going to fill your soul and provide a few minutes of bliss,” Cam said.

The overwhelming happiness that poured from the windows at Dutch Bros was what initially drew Cam to the company, but what he took away is much more impactful. Leveraging the lessons he learned while at Dutch, Cam harnessed them with a passion, applying them towards his dream. As a result, he is now... dancing in New York- just like he’d dreamed.

“Being present is the most important thing we can do, it’s not about being the nicest or making the best drink, but about being present in the moment with the customer. Now, when I see another human I know that when I’m present, in that moment, we can be truly understood and heard.”

Cam says he tries to be present in everything he does and still calls on his Dutch Bros background in everyday life to continue growing as a friend, boyfriend, and dancer.

Whether Dutch Bros is a career or stepping stone, the company encourages broistas to use working at Dutch as a learning and growing opportunity for whatever their future may hold.
